Big Coat Time

It’s most definitely ‘big’ coat weather. I dug out my duffle coat that kept me warm through two Canadian winters and it felt great having the weight of a good coat on my back again.

Now I do love my duffle, but I’m a coat girl and I usually have about three or four on rotation. If you’re looking to add to your coat wardrobe here’s 10 of the best, available to buy right now – just click the links below!

10 reasons why Autumn is so great

I got that feeling tonight on my way home. The feeling of Autumn in the air. The sky was that lovely shade as the sun was setting and it kind of got me pretty excited.

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year. Crunchy leaves, log fires, mittens, chunky knits and twinkly lights, it’s the best!

Here is why I love Autumn so much…

Comfort food
It’s almost a necessity to drink hot chocolate on a daily basis. How else are you meant to stay warm?!

As if by magic TV is actually watchable. Strictly Come Dancing anyone?

New clothes
Ok so you don’t actually need a complete new wardrobe BUT you will be required to invest in some new knits, maybe a new winter coat, warm boots, cute mittens, a matching hat, dress, jumper. Yeah ok, you need a whole new wardrobe

Fresh crisp air
I love the feel of autumn in the air. Crisp, dry and sunny days are the actual best

You suddenly notice how pretty the trees look. You might even take a picture you’re that impressed with the beauty of it

Misty mornings
Early misty mornings with that chill in the air are pretty lovely

Cosy pubs
Autumn is all about heading to a cosy pub and enjoying a glass of wine in front of a log fire.

After months of avoid soup because it’s too hot, you rediscover how comforting a warm bowl of soup is

Hot water bottles
Is it just me or are hot water bottles the best invention ever?!

Christmas is on the way
Autumn means Christmas is on the way. Mulled wine, Christmas parties, Christmas outfits, Christmas presents and cards, the list goes on!

It’s the best job

It’s official (well technically it’s not but I just fancied saying it was) being an Aunty is the best job in the world. I’ve recently started a new job and although I’m loving it, my job as an Aunty totally overshadows it. If you’re a fellow Aunty, you’ll know what I’m saying when I say having a niece or nephew is totally awesome because…

  1. You get to buy them stuff you secretly want to play with yourself. A giant bubble maker wand which is nearly the size of my niece is a recent example
  2. You can take them for milkshake, cookies and ice cream and it’s sort of acceptable to consume all that sugar
  3. You get to offload them on their Mummy and Daddy when the sugar hit from the milkshake, cookies and ice cream starts to kick in
  4. You get the most amazing hugs and welcome, even when they’re super tiny and brand new
  5. You automatically gain a new friend from the minute they’re born
  6. You can chat to them about random stuff like what the weather is doing, what you had for breakfast and if you did a wee or a poo when you went to the loo
  7. You get to watch them grow up and develop their own uniquely brilliant personalities
  8. You realise that you love them more than you thought you ever might
  9. You’re suddenly totally cool with staying in to babysit them on a Saturday night and it actually feels really quite special
  10. You secretly hope they wake up super early to come for a snuggle in bed. Quickly followed by a lengthly conversation about the weather, why it’s not light and what you’re doing that day.

Being an Aunty is seriously the best job

Energy Boosting Food

I don’t know about you but my energy levels are all over the place at the moment. If you’re looking to give them a boost try incorporating these five energy boosting foods into your diet.

1. Green Tea
If you’re out and about it’s always tempting to have one of those super delicious flavoured coffees, but step back!! They are so calorific and they contain a heap of sugar. They taste amazing and you’ll feel awake after drinking it but then your energy levels will crash, and we all know what that looks like. Opt for a green tea and you’ll be amazed at the difference, it will help you to maintain steady energy levels because it’s packed with natural antioxidants. Try and drink three to five cups a day to notice a difference.

2. Bananas
There’s a reason why athletes eat bananas and it’s because they’re a great energy source. They are also really good for your skin as they are contain skin-improving minerals. Pop one in your bag for a snack or blend one in your morning or afternoon smoothie.

3. Oats
Avoid those sugary cereals in a morning, they are tempting and tasty but contain a serious amount of sugar. Eating a portion of oats drizzled with some honey or topped with strawberries or blueberries is a much healthier option. Oats are a fantastic way of providing your body with slow-release energy throughout the day.

4. Dark chocolate
I’ve stopped buying milk chocolate because it’s too tempting to eat the whole bar. I now buy dark chocolate and just have one square which is pretty much all you need to feed your sweet tooth. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants that boost your energy levels and your mood. The darker the chocolate the better!

5. Quinoa
This wholegrain is so good for you. It’s high in protein, complex carbs, fibre and B vitamins, and it’s also known to help lower stress levels. Add some to a salad or have a portion with some chicken or fish.
